U11A Cricket v Merchison

Venue: St Mary’s
Date: 27 April 2016

Lost by 12 runs

A brilliant day opened the 2016 season on front field. The boys were raring to go, Mr Bell had done some job in preparing a superb wicket in these trying weather conditions we have had lately.

Tommy won the toss and chose to field first.

The game started at frenetic pace with Will bowling their opener for no runs then Otto bowling their second batsman. The bowling was on fire.

Will, William, Otto, Alexander, Oliver dG, Frederick and Jamie all had a bowl and Will picked up 4 wickets all from bowling on the stumps. Will also got another wicket from a run out after a tremendous throw that hit the side of the stumps!  Otto picked up 3 wickets from terrific bowls and Jamie and Oliver dG picked up 3 wickets between them with very solid bowling.

Unfortunately, a number of catches were dropped which would have brought the total down dramatically! A lot of work needed!

In 20 overs, St Mary’s managed to get Merchiston all out for 83.

Game on!

After a quick turnaround, St Mary’s came to the crease. Tommy and Will put in a very solid partnership. Will, after hitting a 4 and 2 singles, got caught at mid-wicket. Tommy made 22 before getting bowled.

All St Mary’s batsmen need to work hard on their foot movement before trying to hit the ball as this was our undoing. Everyone else that came in got bowled and as the overs ran out it was left to Mac and Oliver C to steady the ship and Mac eventually hit 13 runs and Mac 8 runs but alas it was not enough and St
Mary’s scored 71 in 20 overs so lost by 12 runs.

Next job boys:  We will work hard to improve but it was a close game and a good hit out for the first match of the season.

A mention about the Under 11 B team. Unfortunately there was an admin error from Merchiston of which they apologise profusely. We are trying to find another date to play at the moment.
