'Douglas' are victorious as Squad Day Winners!

Congratulations go to Douglas who won the Squad Day Quaich on Thursday 17th March.  This year, we grouped the pupils into pairs and threes in their form classes in Squads and this seemed to work well.  After some serious competition in the General  Knowledge quiz, we had joint Senior winners – Lucas, Adam A and Lucy R for Douglas and Hamish Gand Thomas M for Percy.  Our clear Junior quiz winners were Lucy Mac, Anna M and Hannah F for Percy.  The Pre Prep quiz winning squad was Douglas.  In the Goals competition outside, the pupils took part in netball goals, hockey goals, football goals and a throwing target to gain their points.  Our Senior top goal scorer was Harris  (in Home), while in the Juniors, it was Caelan (in Scott).  Pre Prep goals had joint winners of Percy and Scott.

In the afternoon there was much activity in the Sanderson building as the ever creative Ms Wood set the Juniors to work on some lovely themed wall hangings based the events of Melrose Festival week – a certain Mr Struan Hutchison will get a real surprise when he views these works of art on his visit to St Mary’s as the Melrosian Elect in June this year!  With Mr Harvey as the judge, Home came out on top in the Art activity.  Finally it was down to the Seniors to construct and create towers , made with newspapers , which were robust enough to hold an egg.  And all after they had found the materials for construction round the grounds!  Douglas were victorious in this task.  After a final tallying up of all the points for the day across the Pre Prep and the Prep pupils, the results were as follows:

DOUGLAS  17 points,  HOME  16 points,  PERCY and SCOTT  14 points each.

What a great day full of teamwork and camaraderie.  Well done everyone and my particular thanks to all the staff who made all of this possible and who ensure the day runs like clockwork!  Special thanks to Ms Wood, Mr Mill and Dr Morgan for all their preparation and planning in the Art and D&T tasks.
