Dandylions v WOSPS Netball
Wednesday 9th March 2016
As: Dandylions 23, Wosps 32
Bs: Dandylions 27, Wosps 16 (St. Mary’s Dandylions: Flora & Lucy B)
This year’s Dandys v Wosps netball was hosted at Fettes and we were treated to a fantastic afternoon. Following a delicious lunch the girls had a practice and readied themselves for the arrival of the Wosps. Both games were due to start at 14.30
Flora and Lucy both played for the Bs, Flora as GK and Lucy as WD. During the first quarter the game was very evenly fought. Flora was extremely effective as GK and evidently the Wosps found it tricky getting the ball in to their GS. The quarter finished with the Dandylions marginally ahead but there wasn’t much in it.
In the second quarter the Dandys started to edge ahead. We were slightly more mobile off the ball and our shooters found their range very quickly. Lucy found her niche as WD and linked well with both the GK and GD and with the C and WA. Our combinations proved very effective which allowed for a fluent and attractive game of netball. Flora was kept busy at the back and thwarted many an attack, using her height to very good advantage!
We made some changes at half time by which time we had secured and 15 – 9 lead and during the third quarter we continued to dominate possession and to control the game. The Wosps made a couple of changes up front which we took a while to adjust to and as a result they scored goals in quick succession. However, as the game entered the final quarter the girls had managed to do enough to maintain their grasp on the game and we ran out 27 – 16 winners.
On the other court the Dandys A were up against a very competent Wosps team and following a slow start never managed to bridge the gap that the Wosps had managed to secure. They managed to get within 5 goals of the Wosps at one stage during the final quarter but the Wosps maintained their lead for a very well deserved win.
Thank you to Fettes for their hospitality and many congratulations to Lucy and Flora for their selection and for representing St. Mary’s so well.
