U9 Netball v Fettes

Wednesday 9th March

u9 netball 9 march 16

The unbeaten U9A team faced Fettes for the last match of the season. Tension was high as St Mary’s were keen to finish with a clean sweep but the Fettes team looked strong and confident.

Fettes won the toss and opted for first centre which put them in a strong position from the start. St Mary’s were forced into defending from the off with strong passing and good positioning from the Fettes side. The ball accelerated quickly into the Fettes attacking circle but they were unable to score a goal. St Mary’s won possession and needed to work effectively to get the ball out of their defending half. True to form, they passed the ball with fluidity and the GS, playing her first game in this position, shoot confidently to put St Mary’s in the lead at the end of the first quarter.

The quarter time talk was a reminder about moving to receive the ball as Fettes had achieved many interceptions. This made a big difference in the following quarters and St Mary’s just got better as their confidence grew. Fettes raised their game and used different centre pass tactics to try and gain the edge on St Mary’s. Fettes defended well but couldn’t match St Mary’s strong passing. The score at half time was 4-0, 7-0 at the end of the third quarter and finally and tremendous 8-0 victory to St Mary’s at full time. Congratulations to St Mary’s U9’s, an undefeated season. You have all worked so hard and I’m very proud of you all.
