Re-routed from a snowy Ardvreck we were grateful to Fettes for hosting us all at such short notice.

While the U13 teams languished in the palatial surroundings of Westwoods Sports Centre the hardy U11s took to the outdoor courts. Rain, hail, sleet and then sunshine visited us during our 3 matches; all were played in good spirit and with varying degree of success. After drawing with Ardvreck we thought our tournament was over, put our tracksuits on and headed indoors to defrost and watch the final. Clearing suffering from brain freeze, I had omitted to read the programme correctly and was unaware that the winner and runner up in each pool were to go through to the semi-finals. Having scored 1 goal more than Ardvreck we had sneaked in to the said semi! Belhaven won their pool A and so faced us-Runners up in pool B.

After a VERY brief re-group I told the girls to just get the basics right and hopefully the result would go our way; having drawn with Belhaven the previous week we knew their strengths and who to keep the ball away from. Direct passing, rapid movement off the ball and running to receive passes allowed us a 4-2 victory and thus an unexpected passage in to the final.

The final against Fettes was a different game altogether; Fettes, as we knew, were a tall and very able side. Despite the very best efforts of every member of the St. Marys team, we were well beaten though certainly did not disgrace ourselves.

A lovely way to end our season, it was heart-warming to see this super group of hardworking young ladies come away with a medal for their efforts!
