St. Mary’s -3: Belhaven-3
Having watched the very tall Fettes girls take Belhaven to task we knew we had a tough game on our hands. We started really well and managed to keep the ball away from the Fettes shooters for the first 3 minutes. Unfortunately after this promising start, some sloppy indirect passing led to the opposition’s goal attack and goal shooter being fed the ball and for them, missing their target was not an option. The half time score was 6-1 and not really a true reflection of the game as we had managed to get the ball to our shooters, we just couldn’t quite hit the target although Hannah did net one of our attempts. The second half was again fast and furious; Fettes scored first and we replied with a great goal from Iona. All too soon it was full time and despite losing 8-2 I felt the girls had done as much as they could against a particularly tall and well drilled side.
A very evenly matched game; both teams had regular players missing and so adapted well to their new formation. Belhaven scored first and St. Mary’s replied with a well taken shot from Iona, swiftly followed by one from Hannah. Jessica and Isla positioned themselves beautifully and along with Orla kept the game flowing with aplomb. Half time saw honours even with all to play for. Early on in the second half Belhaven again took the lead despite desperate attempts from our defence Lucy W, Orla and now Hannah, to curb their attempts on goal. Some clever passing down the right hand side of the court saw Isla pass to Iona and Iona to Tegan. With the clock ticking down Tegan managed to hit her target and thus equalise the game…just 30 seconds later the fulltime whistle blew.
Well done girls, some great moments but we MUST cut down on basic errors before the tournament at Ardvreck. I expect to see you all out working on passing and catching and if you play a shooting position, you need to get out to the nets at break and lunch.
Thanks to Lucy W from the U11B team and Hannah C for the U10 team for stepping up today.
