1st Rugby v Merchiston

Venue: Merchiston
Date: 24th February 2016

It was a beautiful day at Merchiston and after being well beaten at home, the boys were up for the game!

After a good number of brilliant tackles contributing to a solid defence, a lack of discipline let Merchiston penetrate though the line like a tumbling wilder beast and scored.

We responded quickly after great defence and eventually Rudi got his claim to fame by getting a fingertip interception which led to scoring our first try.
Our chop tackles were on point but a few slip ups allowed Merchiston to go in for a few more tries before half time. We had to get our act together quickly!

A stirring team talk from Mr Mill at half time put us back in the driving seat to begin the second half but alas, we kept losing the ball in contact at crucial times which allowed Merchiston to attack again. All from our turnovers!

Our biggest flaw today was losing ball at ruck time and we are all looking forward to training on Friday to correct these technicalities. We must learn to go past the ball at ruck time and get our presentation better for Freddie at scrum half. Too many times, Merchiston just piled bodies into rucks and because of our body positions; we were in a weak position which then allowed many turnovers that could have been easily prevented.

Our defence at many times was outstanding today and we were all making chop tackles.

We were beaten well but we know we are getting better as a team every time we play and that is key!

Next job, onwards and upwards,

George and Adam L
