2nds Netball v Belhaven

Wednesday 3rd February 2016
Venue:Belhaven

1st Netball v Belhaven 3216

The second team travelled to Belhaven in high spirits and very much looking forward to playing their game on an unseasonal sunny and calm day. Well aware that they faced very strong opposition the St Mary’s team purposefully split into groups and concentrated on warming up and preparing for the match.
Belhaven dominated the first quarter and demonstrating sound passing skills and accurate shooting they quickly moved 3 goals ahead. The second quarter was much of the same though St Mary’s did manage to salvage a goal. The first half of the match ended with the Belhaven side ahead by 8 goals to 1.

The half time talk was very much a reminder of some basic defending skills and a couple of rushed offensive tactics for the team to experiment with. The third quarter was to be St Mary’s best which they lost by only one goal. The Gk, GD and WD marked their opponents with much more commitment, the whole team showed more focus and gave a glimpse of what they were really capable of. Unfortunately this did not continue into the final quarter and the St Mary’s team allowed Belhaven to accumulate an impressive 13 goals making the final score 24-3 to Belhaven.

St Mary’s have the energy and skills to beat this Belhaven team and their level of commitment and enthusiasm during the game is unquestionably. They need to focus on some key offensive strategies to enable them to get the ball into the attacking circle with less physical effort and this will leave them with the energy to defend with a much greater presence when they don’t have possession of the ball.

A disappointing score but an enjoyable afternoon spent with this very pleasant group of girls.
