Under 9B Netball v Cargilfield

Wednesday 20th January 2016
St.Mary’s-3: Cargilfield-0
Captain: Elena de G

A super way to start the season for this excited gaggle of young girls; for some of them this was their first real netball match as previous encounters had been training  fixtures.

From the start it was clear the girls understood the shape of the game, they knew their positions and in which areas they could play, they were also well aware they could not move with the ball!

The first quarter saw both teams settle in to their roles and though no goals were scored the St. Mary’s girls had shown tenacity and I was confident that there were great things to come.

After a quick chat the girls assured me they would stick to the opposition like glue and try hard to keep possession. True to their word they darted here and there allowing Cargilfield little opportunity to get near their D. A successful shot, from our captain Elena de G, on the half-time whistle was just the confidence boost we needed.

The last two quarters saw St. Mary’s take control; passing became more accurate and movement off the ball improved. Two more goals from St. Mary’s saw us deserved winners with a 3 goal to 0 victory.

I was delighted with what I saw today, the girls worked hard and listened carefully-St. Mary’s netball is in good hands!

Well done girls.

Scorers: Elena de G x2, Elena R x 1
