St. Mary's U9 Cricket v. Fettes

On a fine spring day, the St. Mary’s Under 9’s entertained Fettes on the back pitches in a Kwik Cricket match.
Fettes won the toss and elected to field. George B. and Frederick K. started off the innings. In their allotted two overs, they added 12 runs – including a boundary for loss of wicket.

Finlay B. and Stewart M. came in next and moved the score on nicely to 223, (kwik cricket starts at 200) scoring two boundaries for one wicket lost. Thomas J. And Theo T. then did well; the boys had seven scoring shots, including two boundaries for no wicket loss and moved the score on to 236.

Archie M. and Jake M. scored steadily but the loss of a wicket meant that only the 2 could be added to the overall total.
The next pair of the innings saw Ruaridh W-B and Alexander M. to the crease. Some good striking saw Ruaridh hit four boundaries, including a six. With Alexander chipping in as well, they added another 27 to give a running St. Mary’s total of 263.

Ed S. came in with Ruaridh W-B as a non-striking partner as final pair. Good Fettes bowling meant one run was added but no loss of wicket. This gave a final St. Mary’s total of 264.

Fettes came in to bat and made a good start with the first pair adding 13 with no wicket loss. However, Ed S. bowled straight and only conceded three. Next up, Frederick K and Ruaridh WB. bowled a tight line and only conceded six runs.

Finlay B and Stewart M also bowled tight and, by taking a wicket, kept Fettes to a net run. Thomas J and Theo T bowled next and conceded a boundary and a couple of wides, but took a wicket and kept Fettes to a net score of four. Archie M then bowled a maiden over and Jake M backed him up, just conceding two wides.

Alexander M completed the Fettes innings and bowled three dot balls to give Fettes a final total of 238.
A good start was made in the 1st match of the cricket season with all boys contributing. Well done!
