U11 Cricket v Fettes

Venue: Fettes
Date: 22 April 2015
Lost by 10 runs

A brilliant day opened the 2015 season at Fettes on a fantastic wicket. The sun cream and hats were out and the boys were raring to go.
Murray M, who captained the team today won the toss and chose to field.

Murray and Will S opened the bowling and bowled very solidly for the first 4 overs. Fettes’ batsmen were strong and their opener proceeded to stay in the whole innings. A few chances were missed in terms of catches but our main problem was stopping valuable 4’s. Concentration is key in cricket and for a number of boys who played their first hard ball game of cricket; it was a learning experience and can only get better. We have to be awake the entire time we are on the field, always on our toes and thinking the ball will come and any moment!

Tommy D-B bowled alongside Wilfie B who both showed glimpses of excellence. Rudi B had a good over but we just could not get a wicket. A lot of chances came and went until Otto K and Hamish M had a bowl. Hamish Proceeded to get 2 quick wickets with a fantastic bowl on middle stump to dismiss Fettes’ highest hitter for 32 runs. Hamish then got number 3 out with a brilliant catch from Will S at Mid-off. Great reactions and concentration from Will. Otto then got the 4th Wicket with a run out after sharp fielding.

Fettes scored 63 for 4 wickets.

After lunch in the pavilion Rudi and Murray opened the batting and were looking very strong indeed. They both played themselves in well before Rudi got caught after hitting 15. Murray was playing well but a very good bowl on the off side bowled him for 3. Lachlan F and Wilfie B were at the crease next and after a very promising start in which Lachlan was looking very comfortable hitting a 4 before being run out by a lack of composure from his partner but this is early days and this composure will come with practice and better communication. Will S, Hamish M looked very good at the crease but very strong bowling from Fettes 4th Bowler put on a lot of pressure and both were bowled. Will hit a 4 and Hamish got 3 runs. Tommy D-B showed composure and enthusiasm between the creases but unfortunately got stumped as his foot narrowly was outside his crease after a very good bowl. Hamish G hit 2 very good runs before our innings ran out and we managed 53 for 7.

I am very pleased with the effort shown today and we will only get stronger.

Well done lads. Always be positive – it is a learning curve and we WILL get better. Hard work and attitude. Next job.
