 Form 5 Code Breaking 

The Form 5 classroom turned into the Melrose equivalent of Bletchley Park on Thursday morning, when the class set about using their maths and language skills to decipher a secret message. In their squads, the pupils had to work together and use different problem solving skills to come up with the answer. The message was the opening of a famous book encoded with a substitution cipher. Working out the frequency of letters and letter groupings, the teams picked apart the message. Unfortunately, time got the better of the class but I was particularly impressed with the work of Scott, who used all the members of thire group to tackle different parts of the task, and Percy who managed to decode the most number of letters.
