Senior School
Life in the senior school (Forms 6 – 8) is based on the secondary model of specialist teaching for all subjects. In the core subjects, English, Maths and Science as well as French and Latin, pupils are set by ability. This ensures that the needs of all pupils are met. Pupils usually begin Form 6 when they are 10 years old.
Debating, public speaking, lecture competitions and poetry recitals are all part of a programme designed to develop confidence as well as problem solving and thinking skills. A global citizenship programme encourages all senior school pupils to develop an awareness of the wider world and their roles and responsibilities therein.
Many of our senior school pupils take advantage of our flexi-boarding facility in order to prepare for the move to boarding school, and even those who are not moving to boarding school enjoy the occasional night at St. Mary’s!
The senior school day is designed to be as flexible as possible. The majority of senior school pupils stay at school until 5.30 pm in order to do their prep (homework) at school under the supervision of a teacher. Supper (optional) is at 5.45 pm.
