BEd (Hons) (Form 6 Tutor, Director of Music and Drama, Forms 7 and 8 ICT)

Born and brought up in Cupar in Fife, I studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow.  My principal instrument was piano followed by percussion and voice.  On leaving the Academy I taught in Port Glasgow for 6 years, then for 3 years as Head of Department at Paisley Grammar School.  Four years in Dublin as Director of Music at Castle Park School followed before arriving at St Mary’s in August 2009.

Life at St Mary’s is pretty noisy for a Music and Drama teacher.  It’s not unusual to be surrounded by several guitars, keyboards, voices and a drumkit all in the same room doing their own thing.  Having recently taken on responsibility for Drama I am thoroughly enjoying working with our pupils on the stage and am at my happiest when directing a production rehearsal where our children really shine.  Working at St Mary’s and living in the Melrose area has been a very happy move for me.

Away from school I like to play golf (preferably when the sun is shining and on a course with as few bunkers as possible) and in an effort to embrace the country lifestyle I’ve recently bought my first fishing rod.  Listening to live music is a big passion, all styles, with my absolute favourite being Rod Stewart!
