School Structure 

Form 2

In Form 2 the children build on the skills introduced in Reception and Form 1, while preparing for the challenges and expectations of the  Middle School.
 
The three main core subjects taught are Maths, English and Science.
 
In Maths key concepts covered include addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, place value and shape, data and measure.  A strong emphasis is placed on learning times tables.
 
Spelling and reading is the focus of our English class. Developing knowledge and understanding of grammar and comprehension is combined with improving and broadening skills in writing, listening and description.
 
The five topics studied in Science are Forces and Motion, Sound, Humans and other animals, Light and Living things in their environment. 
 
History covers the Great Fire of London and Pirates and also key historical events celebrated throughout the year centred around famous figures for example Guy Fawkes, Robert Burns, St Andrew’s Day and Remembrance Day.
 
Topics covered in Geography include maps, UK and global location and comparing 2 different countries.
 
Music, Drama, Games, PE, Art and Languages are taught by specialist teachers.  PE is covered in twice weekly 35 minute sessions. Year 2 also have a weekly lesson of RME, PSHE and ICT.
 
 
To support learning in the classroom the class will participate in numerous educational visits including Edinburgh Zoo, Gunsgreen House, Lyceum Theatre and Priorwood Court.
 
 
Each child is encouraged to develop at their own speed and is nurtured to become a successful learner, a confident individual, an effective responsible part of the team.
