Boarding

Week ending 23rd June 2017

Monday 19th June

The first day back from holidays began with an early start, some Form 8 boarders arriving on Sunday night to make the 6am awakening a little easier. It was camp week and all the Seniors left Monday morning, so all that were left for boarding tonight were the Juniors. They began the night skipping with Mrs S-A and playing football with Mr Mateos but before long the sound of bagpipes could be heard in the distance. The Melrose Rideout was on and horses were leaving town.  It was a great spectical and something different from our usual St Mary's Monday night antics. It was then time for showers and snack, at which point the Form 7's had arrived back at school and joined in with the Juniors. Welcome back to school, boarders!

Tuesday 20th June

A chicken aroma could be smelt from the common room as boarders met for a jam packed Tuesday night. Sweet chili chicken, salad and homemade wedges had been prepared by the kitchen staff, all of which pupils had soon cleaned up. Initially there were only Juniors in the house, Form 7's not back from their day trip yet, so Mr Mateos set up a game of Sardines for everyone to play. Once the Form 7's had come back the juniors got some free time before everyone met at the big tree on the front pitch. Boarders were split into groups and sent out to town with a member of staff to do the town treasure hunt that had been set up for the Melrose festival. It was awesome fun, as could be seen by the number of smiles on the boarders faces. With all the events of today, an excursion for the Form 7's and then a busy night at boarding, pupils were straight to sleep at lights out.
