St Mary’s v Melrose Primary School 18th January
On Wednesday St Marys played their first competitive football match against Melrose Primary School. Both teams started well with some great passing control and showed defensive skills too. Playing only 15 minutes each half didn’t really allow the boys to settle as they fought hard to win possession of the ball. St Mary’s pushed further and further up the pitch and eventually gaps arrived to allow Charlie C to hammer home from 15 yards. Melrose had some great chances to score with good passing movements but St Mary’s defence was too strong with Fergus and Findlay clearing out any threat. Charlie C scored again near to half time – a cheeky little toe poke into the corner from close range. The Melrose primary boys rallied well, and to their delight, scored a cracker of a goal just on half time.
Second half started with some meaty tackles coming in from both sides and various free kicks were awarded. There were not many shooting chances at goal as both knocked the ball back and forth. Right on the final whistle Charlie C scored again for his hat-trick slamming the ball to the back of the net to close off the match. Well done to both teams for providing an entertaining match and also a big thank you to the Melrose Primary school staff who were present and thus allowed the match to go ahead.
Final score. St Mary’s 3, Melrose Primary 1. |
