St. Mary's Prep School, Melrose, Scottish Borders
Learning at St. Mary's Prep School, Melrose
Academic Expectations

St. Marys prepares children for Common Entrance, scholarship or other entrance exams to senior independent schools. Included in the curriculum are: English, Mathematics, Science, French, Latin, History, Geography, Religious Studies, Music, Drama, Art, Information & Communication Technology, P.E. and Games. A PHSE programme (Personal, Social & Health Education) is co-ordinated through the subjects in the curriculum, assemblies and form periods. Greek is offered to potential scholars in Year 7.

The curriculum is reviewed constantly in the light of the pupils needs, national developments, Common Entrance syllabuses and scholarship requirements. The Assistant Head (Academics) meets regularly with Heads of Departments and Form teachers to monitor academic standards throughout the school.

The education we offer at St. Marys is not merely classroom based. We are able to take advantage of all that the Borders and Edinburgh has to offer for numerous visits and trips, and also to invite visiting speakers into school. At the top of the school, the curriculum is further enhanced by an annual French trip to Dinard, which takes place at the beginning of Year 8.
